Local History

A dwelling has stood on this site since Saxon times, the original structure would have been a wooden one. The de Cockington Family were probably responsible for the conversion to local stone and for a structure which would have been recognisable to Tudor times. It was the 18th century Mallock Family who were to radically convert the house; doing away with the great hall, and providing a distinctive pitched roof, three storey home. The third storey was removed in 1820 for unknown reasons but, curiously, the chimneys remained the same height.
